Work - Government Employment

Trying to gain a government position, women used family and business connections. This curious letter from Hugh W. Sheffey, a delegate from Augusta County, provides a connection from Mrs. Mary A. Gifford to her successor, Mrs. Margaret Johnson, who wished her position to be given to Nannie Goodwin.
