Volunteer Postion Information
DocentThe Library of Virginia offers educational programming for learners of all ages through exhibitions, tours, and special events. The Library is currently seeking enthusiastic, highly motivated, flexible, and dependable individuals to serve as volunteer docents. This position entails a diverse group of responsibilities. Docents guide tours of both the Library’s exhibitions and resource areas while answering guest questions. They will also be expected to demonstrate basic knowledge of the Library’s history, facilities, and functions; to serve as instructors for school-age visitors; and to assist at special events. We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers who have a willingness to learn and an unquenchable intellectual curiosity.

What Can You Do?
The next exhibition opens in late-September. Therefore, we need volunteers who can donate a minimum of 8 hours per month for tours, special events, and school programs.
A thorough training program provides information about our institution and the exhibitions, assists with public speaking skills, and ends with an evaluation. Upon completion, docents will have everything they need to lead an interesting and engaging tour through the Library.
