1.) Review, revise, and strengthen public library standards.
Result: Considered accomplished with the revision of the Code of Virginia §42.1–15.1 to correct an unintended consequence of legislation in 2004.
3.) Develop a comprehensive curriculum for all library workers based on recognized skills and competencies and implement a coordinated program of continuing education. (also directed to Funding/Equity)
Result: Position of Continuing Education Consultant created. Comprehensive needs assessment underway.
4.) Encourage the Virginia Library Association to develop an annual awards program to recognize libraries that meet or exceed standards.
Result: Discussions with the public library community did not support implementation of such awards due to the existence of the Virginia Public Library Directors Association annual awards.
