Archival Oddities Highlighted for Archives Month in Virginia

Even the most staid of archival repositories house collection materials that are just, well, odd. This October’s celebration of American Archives Month in Virginia, themed “Archival Oddities,” seeks to highlight those curious, peculiar, and downright odd items housed in archives and special collections across the commonwealth.

 

2018's Literary Awards Events, October 19–21

The festivities kick off Friday, October 19, at 6:00 PM, with the Art in Literature: The Mary Lynn Kotz Award, presented by the Library and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. On Saturday, October 20, at 6:00 PM, the Literary Awards Celebration Gala will draw library supporters, authors, and publishers to the Library for a spectacular evening.

 

Fry-Jefferson Map Society Happenings

The Fry-Jefferson Map Society will bring S. Max Edelson, author of The New Map of Empire: How Britain Imagined America Before Independence, to the Library on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 10:00 AM, for a map lecture and book signing..

 

True Sons of Freedom Exhibition Closes November 9

True Sons of Freedom, the Library’s powerful photographic exhibition highlighting the stories of African American soldiers from Virginia who served during World War I, is on display in the Library’s exhibition gallery through November 9.
