About the Archives and Manuscripts Catalog

The Archives and Manuscript Catalog includes approximately 20,000 catalog records. Though this represents less than half the total holdings of the archives and manuscripts in The Library of Virginia, new accessions are added daily and retrospective cataloging projects continue to enhance the catalog.

Records may be found for the following types of documents:

• Architectural plans and drawings
• Bible records
• Business records
• Cemetery records
• Church records
• Federal government records
• Genealogical notes and charts
• Local government records (primarily business records)
• Organization records
• Military records
• Personal and family papers
• State government records
