Report Author: Joseph D. Lahendro
Report Date: 5/7/1999
Location: Mansion - Basement - Security Office (E) / Executive Protection Unit (R)
Work Type: Excavation
Notes: Video and digital photos of northwest corner where underpinning excavation has revealed the original foundation walls at this corner extend lower than that found elsewhere. They extend at least 1'-4" lower, and, at the north wall, the bottom couple of brick courses step out into the space at least one brick wythe, which has not been seen on any other foundation wall so far. A couple of theories for this difference include: it occurs at the corners for added stability, or the lower spread wall is due to softer earh in this area.

Report Date: 5/10/1999
Location: Mansion - Second Floor - Dressing Room and Bedroom (E) / Governor's Bedroom (R)
Work Type: Demolition
Notes: Flooring in former Governor's Bedroom is being removed to assess adequacy of floor framing. Flooring is quarter-sawn fir. In the course of the elevator's removal questionable framing conditions were revealed. This framing was possibly installed at the time of the elevator installation. In order to shore the existing floor structure and to tie new framing to old, this flooring and subflooring must come out.
