Weather Conditions: Sunny. Mid 80s
Report Author: Joseph D. Lahendro
Report Date: 5/11/1999
Location: Mansion - Basement - Women's Room (E)
Work Type: On-site paint removal
Notes: Video and digital photos of removing earth (clay mixed with river rock) and underpinning brick walls. The lower original foundation wall in the northwest corner turns out to be consistant throughout this room. In fact, beneath the later plaster the brick walls are painted to about 1' below the former top of slab. Evidently this room, historically, had a lower finished floor level. The brick wall between this room and the next room to the south has two wythes of brick on the north face extend down to the lower floor level, and the remaining wythes on the south side stop at a higher elevation and sit on the clay/river rock fill found elsewhere.

Observable for the first time is a brick infilled opening towards the north end of the elevator. The historic former opening is very tall, about 10' to 12' tall. Just visible at its top is a dressed stone lintel.
