Note ID: | MS170 | Weather Conditions: | light rain, mid-50's | Report Author: | Mary Harding Sadler | Report Date: | 5/14/1999 | Location: | Mansion - Basement - Laundry (E) | Work Type: | Demolition | Notes: | Excavation and demolition have exposed the base of the chimney breast in the space below the South Ballroom. Oddly, the base of the chimney breast has very carefully executed masonry, with tight joints and white "pencilling." This area of masonry seems to have been exposed at one time suggesting that this area of the basement was filled. |

Note ID: | JL28 | Weather Conditions: | Sunny, low 70s | Report Author: | Joseph D. Lahendro | Report Date: | 5/15/1999 | Location: | Mansion - Basement - Cooler (E) | Work Type: | Demolition | Notes: | Video and digital photos of brick flooring discovered below the demolished concrete slab. The brick flooring is covered by about a half inch of concrete topping that obscures the brick pattern. This type of brick flooring also exists in the adjacent scullery, about 4" above the cooler floor level. |

Note ID: | JL30 | Weather Conditions: | Sunny, low 70s | Report Author: | Joseph D. Lahendro | Report Date: | 5/15/1999 | Location: | Mansion - Basement - Hall (E) / Hall and Dumbwaiter (R) | Work Type: | Demolition | Notes: | Video and digital photos former asphaltic waterproofing about 3" below former concrete floor. Waterproofing was installed on a concrete slab, and continued to the east and south walls in this space. Appears to have related to this area being outside prior to its enclosure. |

Note ID: | JL26 | Weather Conditions: | Sunny, low 70s | Report Author: | Joseph D. Lahendro | Report Date: | 5/15/1999 | Location: | Mansion - Basement - Hall (E) / Stairhall (R) | Work Type: | Demolition | Notes: | Video and digital photos of discovered granite threshold at new door opening south of south stair at south end of east wall (this will be the new door to the new electrical room). This threshold obviously dates to a historic or original door opening in this location, as further evidenced by historic brick seams previously documented by Mimi. The threshold is approximately 12" wide by 3 1/2' long by 5" thick, and is aligned with the west wall face. |

Note ID: | JL33 | Weather Conditions: | Sunny, low 70s | Report Author: | Joseph D. Lahendro | Report Date: | 5/15/1999 | Location: | Mansion - Basement - Kitchen (E/R) | Work Type: | Demolition | Notes: | Video and digital photos of fireplace base on east wall below former dining room fireplace above. The center of the base has been infilled with brick. It appears this fireplace base was originally constructed as two end piers with an open center that was later filled in to obtain a flat wall area. |

Note ID: | JL29 | Weather Conditions: | Sunny, low 70s | Report Author: | Joseph D. Lahendro | Report Date: | 5/15/1999 | Location: | Mansion - Basement - Kitchen Service Area (E) / Serving Scullery (R) | Work Type: | Demolition | Notes: | Video and digital photos of a former opening in the floor framing above next to the north dumbwaiter and butting against the west wall (rear wall of original house). This opening is roughly 3' wide (east--west) by 8' long (north--south). Could this possibly be a original stair opening in this 1906 dining room addition? |
