Note ID: | JL27 | Weather Conditions: | Sunny, low 70s | Report Author: | Joseph D. Lahendro | Report Date: | 5/15/1999 | Location: | Mansion - Basement - Laundry (E) | Work Type: | Demolition | Notes: | Video and digital photos of brick veneer on east face of fireplace base below south ballroom fireplace. The later veneer brick is machine made with thin white mortar paste joints, and is only on the east face of the fireplace base. The one wythe thick depth of the veneer is obvious at the north and south ends of the base. There are two historic brick courses below the bottom of the veneer, which may be due to installing the veneer on the original spread base bottom, or the replacement of the original brick wythe with the veneer. This later veneer may relate to replacement of the fireplace hearth above so as to provide a new ledger for the hearth's bottom boards. |

Lahendro | Report Date: | 5/15/1999 | Location: | Mansion - Basement - Mansion Director (E/R) | Work Type: | Demolition | Notes: | Video and digital photos of south wall foundation where concrete is being sheared off inside face of foundation below the former slab. This is being done to align the wall face above and below the former slab for the proposed lower floor level. This wall backs up to the tunnel, and its foundation is obviously modern. |

Note ID: | JL37 | Weather Conditions: | Cloudy, low 70s | Report Author: | Joseph D. Lahendro | Report Date: | 5/17/1999 | Location: | Mansion - Basement - Hall (E) / Hall and Dumbwaiter (R) | Work Type: | Demolition | Notes: | Video and digital photos of area at bottom of southeast stair. Stair has now been completely removed. Outside face of original east wall is exposed where covered by stair, and is painted brick as seen elsewhere (elevator and dumbwaiter removal). The faces of the south and west walls in this area appear to have an asphaltic coating, possibly related to the asphaltic waterproofing discovered about 3" below the floor slab. |

Note ID: | JL36 | Weather Conditions: | Cloudy, low 70s | Report Author: | Joseph D. Lahendro | Report Date: | 5/17/1999 | Location: | Mansion - Basement - Maid's Room (E) | Work Type: | Demolition | Notes: | Video and digital photos of wood lintel at east door. Brick beneath this lintel has been removed for a new, wider opening, and the underside of the lintel is charred from a prior fire. As documented previously, the framing of this lintel and seams in the brick indicate this to be an original door or window opening. |

Note ID: | JL38 | Weather Conditions: | Cloudy, low 70s | Report Author: | Joseph D. Lahendro | Report Date: | 5/17/1999 | Location: | Mansion - First Floor - Beverage Service (E/R) | Work Type: | Demolition | Notes: | Video and digital photos of west wall uncovered by removal of dumbwaiter. This wall was the outside face of the east wall of the original house. A portion of an original stone lintel is exposed. The lintel is unpainted and shows the decorative tooling marks evident at other original stonework. A portion of the lintel extends south of the dumbwaiter and is painted like the other walls in this space. |

Note ID: | JL40 | Weather Conditions: | Cloudy, low 70s | Report Author: | Joseph D. Lahendro | Report Date: | 5/17/1999 | Location: | Mansion - First Floor - Dining Room (E/R) | Work Type: | New Finish Application | Notes: | John Paul pointed out the two niches in this room as later additions. Originally these wall areas were curved blank walls with curved chair rails and baseboards like the rest of the room. But later the niches were carved into the wall and a cabinet, with staight front, installed below the niches. Video and digital photos were taken of the former chair rail ghosts on the sides of the window trim at both ends of these wall sections. John Paul plans to reinstall the chair rails to the face of the cabinet to regain this continuous horizontal line. |
