Report Date: 5/19/1999
Location: Mansion - Basement - Mansion Director (E/R)
Work Type: Demolition
Notes: Video and digital photos of newly exposed door opening in east wall, north of fireplace base. Opening was covered by wood frame and gypsum board, apparently modern construction. Door opening appears original due to formed handmade brick jambs that are painted with a lintel framing system that is original. On the west side of each jamb there is a recessed corner for a wood jamb that was later removed, also typical of other original basement doors. Below the lintel framing there is brick held up by a head board that is painted and appears to be original.

Report Date: 5/19/1999
Location: Mansion - First Floor - Beverage Service (E/R)
Work Type: Demolition
Notes: Video and digital photos of surfaces exposed by dumbwaiter removal. On east face of west wall (exterior east wall of original house) stone lintel for an original basement opening has been exposed, with the portion within the dumbwaiter shaft unpainted and original adjacent brick painted. Newly exposed ceiling construction above is mostly modern except for a couple of early painted beaded boards that appear to form a south jamb for an earlier opening roughly in line with the original basement opening.

Report Date: 5/19/1999
Location: Mansion - Second Floor - East Bedroom (E) / First Lady's Dressing and Bathroom (R)
Work Type: Demolition
Notes: Video and digital photos of ceiling above demolished closet in northwest corner of east bedroom next to center hall. Paint ghosts on the newly exposed ceiling indicate a prior partition that angled at 45 degrees across the outline of the newly demolished closet. A hole in the ceiling here shows handsplit wood lath and plaster continuing above existing west partition plate.

Report Date: 5/20/1999
Location: Mansion - Attic
Work Type: Miscellaneous
Notes: One of the workers has found an old broom in the southeast area of the attic between the floor joists. Those who found it thought it had been burned. Instead it appears to be covered with filth and deteriorated. Age of broom is not determined (it is not modern). The broom is to be submitted to DHR for the collection.
