Note ID: | MS277 | Weather Conditions: | Partly cloudy, low 90s | Report Author: | Mary Harding Sadler | Report Date: | 6/14/1999 | Location: | Mansion - Basement - Security Office (E) / Executive Protection Unit (R) | Work Type: | Miscellaneous | Notes: | Installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment in the joist space of the Security Office continues, resulting in a second phase of "demolition." The impact of utilities installation is concentrated in the west half of the basement. Original joists are cut as needed to keep this new infrastructure above the ceiling in these low spaces. Joists are supplemented in order to ensure structural stability. The mechanical units placed in the joist space of this room are feeding the Old Governor's Office. The large timber window headers are removed to make room for the new diffusers. The contractors and the architect are struggling to maintain desired ceiling heights while concealing utilities. The casualties in this effort are the original structural members. |
