Very old flooring uncovered in the closet on the south side of the fireplace evidences that the closet was probably once a doorway into the bedroom from an early Stairhall. This theory is supported by evidence of an early stair (west wall of the North Foyer) whose landing was further north than the present landing of the North Stair. The brick wall adjacent to the bedroom door is channeled in order to recess utility lines. |
