Volunteer Opportunities
Interested in sharing your time and talent? Consider volunteering at the Library of Virginia. The Library of Virginia hosts various events and programs throughout the year and welcomes community support. Your support and service help ensure the success of our events and programs. Volunteer opportunities are managed in conjunction with the Library’s Foundation Office.
Internship Opportunities
Are you looking to extend your learning outside of the classroom? The Library of Virginia encourages learning and offers paid and unpaid internship opportunities. Unpaid internships are available for academic credit. Internship positions will be available on a less than 180-day period to students 18 years of age or older and enrolled at an accredited college or university.
The opportunities are designed for eligible students in good standing majoring in library science, history, museum studies, archives, marketing/communications, human resources, information technology, and finance. Opportunities are open based on the availability in the following departments.

Unpaid Internship Opportunities
Unpaid internships are available for academic credit for the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. Interested candidates must complete the application form below to be considered for an available opportunity. Spring 2025 requests are now being accepted. Submission deadline is December 1, 2024.

- Spring 2025 applications are to be submitted by December 1, 2024.
Summer Paid Internship Opportunities
Paid internships are available for Summer periods June - August. Applications will be available February – March and will be posted at the following link: Virginia Jobs.
Shadowing Opportunities
College students requesting a Shadowing Opportunity must submit an official request. The Office of Human Resources will confirm the availability of the shadowing opportunity based on the student’s area of interest.
