Library of Virginia Open Tuesday–Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Appointments are no longer required for researchers

The Library of Virginia's second-floor reading rooms are open to all with no advance appointment necessary during our current hours, which as of July 6, 2021, expand to Tuesday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.

The Archives Research Room is closed for lunch from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Our Special Collections Reading Room still requires an appointment (call 804.692.3703 or email specialcoll@lva.virginia.gov).

The Virginia Shop at the Library is open Tuesday–Friday, 10:00 AM–4:00 PM. The shop offers books, gifts, souvenirs, décor, and other items for history lovers and the literary-minded. Our Exhibition Gallery will be closed May 29–August 29, 2021, while we prepare for our next exhibition.

The Library of Virginia follows health and safety protocols based on the latest guidance from the Governor’s Office, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
