Shaping Public Opinion - Images and Documents

Women began to attend political events in larger numbers during the 1840s. In Wythe County in 1844 the Democrats invited women to their rally, but local Whigs later complained that the Democrats had insulted the women by serving alcohol. There is no record of the women’s response.
