Literary Awards Honor Virginia Authors with a Week of
Livestreamed Virtual Events

Join us live online as we celebrate the Library of Virginia Literary Awards virtually again this year with a week of author conversations and special events beginning Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Anchoring the week will be the 24th Annual Literary Awards Celebration, on Saturday, October 16, with our author finalists, presenters, special guests, and host Adriana Trigiani. This year’s Pulitzer Prize for Commentary winner, Michael Paul Williams, will be honored for his distinguished contributions to journalism in the commonwealth of Virginia. Sponsored by Dominion Energy, the events offer an excellent opportunity for anyone who loves the written word to interact with amazing Virginia authors through an engaging and informative online format.

The livestream for each virtual event begins at 6:00 PM and is accessible to the public, free of charge, through the Library of Virginia’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

Visit the Literary Awards Celebration Facebook Event listing and select "Going" to receive reminders when the livestreaming begins.

Libraries Respond to Working Life Changes

Given the massive changes to working life during the pandemic, many people are seeking ways to improve work skills, find new careers, or even open their own businesses.

Virginia residents now have access to a variety of digital platforms to support evolving career paths, funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Act through the Library of Virginia. Resources such as those below are available at FindItVa.com or your local public library. In some cases, a local public library card is required.

  • Accel5 Business Video Library offers five-minute lessons from corporate trailblazers for busy professionals, including book summaries of business classics and emerging trendsetters.
  • JobsNow connects users with live, certified career coaches for assistance with résumé writing, skills analysis, and career-path strategies.
  • Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative helps users explore entrepreneurial ideas and develop their thought processes prior to investing in a small business effort.

Happy Archives Month!

Every year during October, the archival community in the commonwealth celebrates American Archives Month to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving and sharing cultural and historical documents. This year’s theme, Activism and Archives, explores archival documentation of activists, activism, social movements, and social injustices through the decades, as well as how archival collections are used as tools in modern activism.

Visit our Virginia Archives Month webpage to find a list of events—including “Ask an Archivist Day” on October 13—along with resources, images, news stories, puzzles, and downloadable items such postcards and coloring pages.
