Discussion Groups

The Library of Virginia sponsors two electronic discussion groups, Virginia History and Virginia Genealogy, that are open to interested researchers worldwide.

VA-HIST

VA-HIST is a discussion list for research and writing about Virginia history. Researchers can learn more about the work of other scholars, inquire about the location of sources, debate issues, raise questions, and learn about current events in the field (conferences, research grants, position announcements, etc.) VA-HIST invites the participation of researchers in disciplines other than history as well as teachers, librarians, archivists, and others.

Many Library of Virginia staff participate in the list, and provide valuable information about resources available in both the Library of Virginia's collections and in other institutions in Virginia. Other VA-HIST participants are good sources of information about resources located in collections in other areas.

VA-ROOTS

VA-ROOTS is a discussion list for discussion of research and writing about Virginia genealogy and family history. Through VA-ROOTS, participants can share the results of research, assist newcomers, inquire about the location of resources, and learn about current events in the field.
