Note ID: JL309
Weather Conditions: Cloudy, mid 70s
Report Author: Joseph D. Lahendro
Report Date: 8/31/1999
Location: Mansion - Second Floor - North Stair (E/R)
Work Type: Demolition
Notes: Video and digital photos of the ceiling above the stair landing where a section of the painter's canvas has been removed exposing a rectangular area of plaster infill in the ceiling. The infill is approximately 2.5' x 4', with the long dimension running east-west. It appears to relate to the access hatch found in the attic floor directly above this area. This former opening is probably the original, or, at least, very early, access hatch to the attic from the lower floors before a stair was installed.

Location: Mansion - Second Floor - Old Governor's Bedroom (E/R)

Notes: Video of worker removing brick with jackhammer behind the baseboard to create a chase for new electrical conduits. Roughly a section two bricks high by one brick wythe deep is being removed around most of the room. After the conduit is installed, the open chase will be refilled with grout before reinstalling the baseboard. Baseboards in the Capitol Room and Lafayette Room have been removed in preparation for the same treatment.

Weather Conditions: Cloudy, mid 70s
Report Author: Joseph D. Lahendro
Report Date: 8/31/1999
Location: Mansion - South Elevation
Work Type: On-site paint removal
Notes: Video and digital photos of workers removing paint from brick façade at eastern end. A plastic tent has been created using the scaffolding as framework. Workers inside the isolation tent are rinsing off Peel-Away chemical remover, that was sprayed on and allowed to loosen the paint. A plastic trough on the ground below the tent collects the residue and rinse water. The residue sinks to the bottom and the water is siphoned off, filtered, and collected in steel drums that are transported for off-site regulated disposal. The residue is collected in containers and, also, disposed off-site in a hazardous material waste site.
