Imprint Record

Address to the Citizens of the District of York.

  • Imprint Number: 1794.032
  • Title: Philadelphia, 1794. Fellow-citizens, I am not qualified by habit or education to harangue you ... I have therefore not made any verbal address to you in your counties …
  • Sequence Number: 32
  • Year: 1794
  • Place Issued: Virginia
  • Issuing Press: Uncertain
  • Author: Page, John (1744-1808).
  • Notes: A circular letter to his constituents reporting the on the current session of Congress and his offer to accept another term as their congressional representative. Manuscript additions to the text include a date of May 12, 1794 and a signature by Page.
Sheet lacks printer credit; a dateline of Philadelphia brings into question whether this title is a Virginia imprint; but Page engaged presses in Norfolk and Richmond during his political career, so making it probable that he simply sent a letter from Congress to one such Virginia publisher for publication. Apparently, the only known copy is held by the Library of Virginia.
