Library of Virginia Launches Redesigned, User-Centric Website

The Library is pleased to announce the launch of its redesigned website, offering a modern, streamlined digital experience to Virginians and users nationwide who access its vast online resources.

Library of Virginia Mobile Programming Van to Attend Picnic in the Park in Poquoson, Virginia

The Library will bring its mobile programming van, LVA On the Go, to the Picnic in the Park at the Poquoson Municipal Park, 16 Municipal Drive, Poquoson, Virginia, on Friday, June 27 from 5 to 10 p.m.

“Justice for Ourselves” Book by Library of Virginia Staff Members Earns Richard Slatten Award

Library of Virginia editors John G. Deal and Marianne E. Julienne and historian Brent Tarter have been awarded this year’s Richard Slatten Award for Excellence in Virginia Biography from the Virginia Museum of History and Culture for their book “Justice for Ourselves: Black Virginians Claim Their Freedom After Slavery.”

Library of Virginia Announces Nominations Are Open for the 2026 Art In Literature: The Mary Lynn Kotz Award

The Library has announced that nominations are open for the 2026 Art In Literature: The Mary Lynn Kotz Award, which recognizes an outstanding book that is written primarily in response to the world of art while also showing the highest literary quality as a creative or scholarly work on its own merit.

New Exhibition Highlighting the History of Richmond’s Jackson Ward Neighborhood to Open at the Library of Virginia

A new exhibition that highlights a pivotal, yet little-known chapter of the history of Richmond’s Jackson Ward neighborhood titled “House to Highway: Reclaiming a Community History” opens at the Library on July 14, 2025.

Library of Virginia and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Announce Winner of Annual Art in Literature Award

The Library of Virginia and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts are pleased to announce that Deborah Parker has been chosen as this year’s recipient of the Art in Literature: The Mary Lynn Kotz Award for her book “Becoming Belle da Costa Greene: A Visionary Librarian Through Her Letters.”
