• Notes: Text is dated: "Wythe Courthouse (Virginia) 10th March, 1795." Smyth writes in response to a printed circular letter from Preston in Philadelphia (now lost), where he represented much of southwestern Virginia in Congress, accusing Preston of pursuing policies that had enriched himself, rather than ones aiding the people who had elected him; the vituperative exchange continued through the 1796 election cycle with at least three more publications.
  Imprint lacks title page; surviving copies found bound with other pamphlets from various personal libraries; Evans attributes this title to the press of Samuel Pleasants, which probably was its origin given Smyth's emerging role as a Republican political leader in the west and given Pleasants's concurrent development as the primary Republican printer in the state.
