Imprint Record

Memorial of J. & J.D. Westcott for Printing the Laws of Virginia.

  • Imprint Number: 1800.068
  • Title: To the legislature of Virginia: the memorial of J. & J.D. Westcott ...
  • Sequence Number: 68
  • Year: 1800
  • Place Issued: Alexandria
  • Issuing Press: John & James D. Westcott
  • Author: John & James D. Westcott [firm].
  • Notes: Only known copy, in the state archive at the Library of Virginia, lacks printer credit; the text is a petition from the Alexandria printing firm of John & James D. Westcott asking for contract to print the laws of each Assembly session as a way to speed their distribution; that context clearly makes this broadside one of their imprints; it is dated at end in manuscript "Dec. 8, 1800" by a clerk of the House of Delegates, showing date of submission, and so of printing.
