• Notes: A Federalist from Connecticut, Pitkin spoke against authorizing the U.S. Treasury to borrow more funds for a war whose causes had been eliminated by the rescission of the British and French edicts against American trade in the Atlantic; that change made the ongoing war with Great Britain illegitimate and any loans to pursue it both unnecessary and detrimental to the national interest.
  The firm of Snowden & Simms then published the Federalist-oriented Alexandria Gazette.
