• Notes: An English translation of Jung-Stilling's Scenen aus dem Geisterreiche, originally published in 1795, with the third edition issuing in Frankfort-am-Main in 1803; the author was a writer and physician of Pietist origins, as were the Henkels and their fellow evangelical Lutherans.
  This work was translated by Gottlieb Shober (1756-1838), a colleague of Rev. Paul Henkel in the Evangelical Lutheran Synods of Virginia and North Carolina; Shober signed a translator's preface on November 1, 1814 at Salem, North Carolina, then entered the work for copyright on January 13, 1815 in the U.S. District Court for North Carolina; those two dates show that this imprint was produced in the winter of 1814-15, even as the imprint lacks a date.
  The imprint bears the name of Ambrose Henkel, so evincing the end of his management of the family's press complex at New Market; other texts identifiably from this press in 1815 all bear his brother Solomon's name, indicating the change came shortly after this item issued.
