• Notes: Imprint states: "Printed for the author, 1817." Shaw & Shoemaker attribute this item to the Leesburg press of Samuel B.T. Caldwell, based on the production of a second edition there later in 1817: Confession of the prince of darkness concerning his devices, in politics and religion (1817.075); that attribution is reported here, even though neither edition provides clear evidence for the first being produced in Virginia at all. Balcom retitled the second edition as Confession of the Prince of Darkness after hearing complaints about his use of the word "devil" in that seen in thus first edition.
