Library of Virginia Announces Appointment of Aubrey Hobby as Director of Governmental and External Affairs

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA — The Library of Virginia is pleased to announce that Aubrey Hobby has joined the agency as director of governmental and external affairs. In this leadership role, Hobby will serve as a key adviser to the Librarian of Virginia and will build and sustain partnerships with the General Assembly, the Commonwealth’s executive offices, state agencies and other cultural institutions.

Hobby’s background reflects significant experience in public policy, legislative operations and stakeholder engagement across the Commonwealth. She most recently served as legislative assistant to Majority Leader Charniele Herring, where she provided policy research, communications support and coordinated meetings with constituents, advocacy groups and lobbyists. She also contributed to the successful advancement of several pieces of legislation and supported fundraising and community engagement efforts.

“Aubrey brings a deep understanding of Virginia’s legislative process and a strong commitment to public service,” said Librarian of Virginia Dennis T. Clark. “Her experience working with policymakers, constituent and community partners will strengthen the Library’s ability to advance its mission and engage effectively across the Commonwealth.”

Previously, Hobby served as chief of staff to Delegate Amy Laufer, managing office operations, constituent services, legislative research and stakeholder communications. She has also held legislative roles with Delegates Marcia Price and Dawn Adams. Her earlier experience includes campaign organizing roles and policy research at the University of Virginia.

Hobby holds a B.A. degree with majors in both English and political science from Hollins University, and a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Virginia’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. She also earned a certificate in leadership studies from Hollins University’s Batten Leadership Institute.
