Notice Under the Americans with Disabilities Act

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), the Library of Virginia (LVA) will not discriminate against qualified individuals on the basis of disability in its services, programs or activities. 

LVA will make reasonable modifications that support both communication and physical access, ensuring that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to access all programs, services, and activities. 

LVA routinely offers the following accommodations: 

  • Clarity
  • Hearing Loops (Telecoil)
  • JAWS screen reader: verbally reads emails, webpages, etc. on the computer
  • Magnifiers
  • Recite Me Accessibility Toolbar for LVA Website
  • Simon Reading Machine (Reader's Edge): scans the physical page (book, letter, etc.) and reads it back to the user
  • Wheelchair (2)

LVA’s building is equipped with the following: 

  • Accessible parking spaces 
  • Accessible restrooms  
  • Adjustable height tables 
  • Automatic door openers 
  • Elevators 
  • Exterior access ramp
  • Ramp entrances to Lecture Hall and Computer Classroom

Accommodations or Concerns 

Any individual who requires an auxiliary aid or service, or modification of policies or procedures, in order to participate in an LVA service, program, or activity, should fill out the Accessibility Accommodation or Concern Form.  

If you believe you have experienced discrimination on the basis of disability in the provision of services, programs, or activities by the Library of Virginia, please submit the Accessibility Accommodation or Concern Form.

A Library of Virginia staff member will be in touch within 15 calendar days. We will respond via the contact method(s) selected on this form or specified verbally. The response will offer options for accommodation or resolution. 

The ADA does not require LVA to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services or impose any undue financial or administrative burden. 

LVA will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy.
