Supreme Court of Virginia Records and Briefs

The Library of Virginia holds in its archival collection the Records and Briefs of the Supreme Court of Virginia. These records were originally filed with the Supreme Court for review and study before cases were argued before the Court, and when no longer active, were transferred to the Archives for permanent retention.

Document types may include, but are not limited to: Petitions, Briefs and Appendices.

This searchable index allows for identifying individual cases by key information. Please make note of Accession Number and Box Number for cases of interest once located in search results, as this information will be needed to request materials.

The records and briefs are housed offsite. Please contact Archives Reference Services at 804-692-3888 to have the records of interest transferred to the Library, where they may be viewed in the Archives Reading Room.
