• Notes: Established as a paper supporting presidential candidacy of James Monroe by campaign's corresponding committee, which included Stanard; printed by Carter, Stanard's brother-in-law, and probably his brother James B. Carter. Supported by dissenting Republicans in state (Tertium Quids) led by John Randolph of Roanoke and John Taylor of Caroline; paper was removed to Washington in November 1809 to serve as voice of Quids in Congress. Stanard's enslaved pressman, Solomon, ran away during the move.
