Cowardin (1811-82), formerly a clerk in the office of the Enquirer, as his new partner; the pair promptly resumed using shortened title to form used briefly in 1835 by Gallaher & Walker; Cowardin eventually turned Compiler into a Whig paper in advance of the 1840 elections.
